I do not remember Windows 8 or Windows 7 users facing so many problems regarding Windows Update, as much as the Windows 10 users appear to be facing.
These are elegant apps that work well, but if you’ve recently upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10, you might be more comfortable using Windows Media Player (WMP) instead. Before Updates are finally released for end-users like you and me, Microsoft tests them extensively on their own test systems. Microsoft gets an army of keen geeks, hungry to test out the new builds, in real-world situations. The millions of enthusiastic Windows 10 users who are part of the Windows Insider Program, install the Insider Preview builds on their systems so that they can check out the new features, test the build and report bugs, etc. Once the updates have been tested extensively, they are released to the main channel. Thus, Microsoft was forced to offer alternative versions of Windows 10 that have some of these key features removed. You’ll be presented with a window that asks you to choose which version of the file you want to download. You should then be prompted by your browser to Open with Windows Update Standalone Installer (default). Not only do they lack Windows Media Player, but they also exclude apps such as Video, Voice Recorder, audio-video codecs, and more. You’ll need to download the Media Feature Pack from Microsoft’s official website. The file you select depends on what bit version of Windows 10 you’re running. With this selected, click OK to begin installation.
